Commemorative Dates in the History of the First Mexican Baptist Church of San Antonio, Texas

 


1800's

1888 : Organization of the church by the missionary W.D. Powell
1888 : First Pastor is  Rev. Manuel G. Trevino.  First building at the corner of Hidalgo St. and Frio St.
1889 : Second building at the same place (Hidalgo & Frio).  Mrs. Mina Everett raised funds for this building.

 

1900 - 1925

1903 : Pastor  Rev. A.C. Carlisle
1905-06 : Pastor Rev. Jonas Garcia
1910 : Pastor  Benito Perez.  The third building is built at 309 S. Laredo St.  The Mexican Baptist Convention is organized and meets at the First Mexican Baptist Church, in San Antonio.
1912-13 : Pastor Marcos Castillo
1917 : Our Women's Missionary Union "Hadassa" is organized.
1917-19 : Pastor  Rev. Felix Buldain.  Associate Pastor is Rev. Matias Garcia
1921-22 : Pastor  Policarpo Barro.  The fourth new building is inaugurated at 711 S. Laredo St.  The church splits and "El Calvario" Baptist Church is formed.
1923-24 : Pastor Josias Villarreal
1924-28 : Pastor Efrain Dominguez.  Missionary work starts in Converse, Mitchell Lake, Pleasanton, and Divine.

1925 - 1950

1929-42 : Rev. Alfredo Cavazos is Pastor.  The first choir was organized.
1942-44 : Pastor Pedro Carranza.  Some members leave to form "Templo" Baptist Church.
1944-46 : Pastor Demetrio Galan
1946-49 : Pastor Alfredo Cavazos
